What is Ultra Long Range Shooting?
It is a shooting discipline that, in a competitive form, started at Raton, New Mexico, USA in 2015.
The distances may vary, depending on the location of the competition and the stage of the competition.
Since its inception as a King of 2 Miles [Ko2] competition, a shorter King of 1 Mile [Ko1] has become popular, often due to the lack of 2 mile ranges.
The targets are always metal plates, and the object is just to be able to hit the plate!
K02 competitors shoot at targets starting with one shot a 16″ disk (1 MOA) at about 1 mile.
Then at targets incremental up to the 2 miles where the target is 48” x 60” (1.2m x 1.5m)
That is about 1.275 MOA x 1.625 MOA
Each shooter is allowed one or two assistants, depending on the competition rules.
The primary assistant is the Spotter, using the most powerful spotting scope they or the team can afford.
The third, if permitted, is what I call the Wind Guru. His task is wind assessment and giving recommendations for windage corrections.
If the shooter has not hit the target, and only being able to use their rifle scope’s low magnification, will be unlikely to see the bullet off target impact.
If you don’t know that, there is little point in pulling the trigger again.
As Einstein said, Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.
