About

I am carrying out a very narrow field of research in to Ultra Long Range rifles.

My definition of Ultra Long Range is 1 Mile (1,760 yards)  up to 2 Miles (3,520 yards), give or take a few hundred yards.

My primary research is to compare a traditional constant Twist, against Radical Gain Twist*, in otherwise identical rifles.
They will also be Left twist, being primarily for the Northern hemisphere.
* Gain Twist is where the rifle’s twist rate increases from a low twist at the breach, to a higher twist rate at the muzzle.
In the comparisons, the exiting twist rate for each calibre, will be the same.

The calibres are restricted to 33XC (.338) 37XC (.375) 41XC (.416) and .416 Barrett.

Rifles built for Twist comparison have TACOM HQ Structured Barrels, using Bartlein blanks.
Other rifles will have TACOM HQ Structured Barrels, but the blank manufacturer may vary.
I am very grateful for advice and encouragement from John and Jacob Baker at TACOM HQ, David Tubb (creator of the XC cartridge).
Also to Vince Bottomley and Paul Hill, who encouraged me to become a Registered Firearms Dealer in order to be a Gunsmith and build my own research rifles, because I had all the facilities.

My website will slowly develop to publish details of the various rifle projects being undertaken.
  1. The components for each rifle.
  2. The build processes.
  3. Drawings where available.
  4. Test firing results, including load data.
